Some of the music industry favorite tattooists.

What happens when two talented people end up in the same room? In our case, an awesome tattoo. Musicians are all about expressing themselves. When they find an artist who can help them to broadcast a particular message through their skin, they stay loyal for years.

On Marilyn Manson’s 21st birthday, Gidget Gein (band member and friend) took him to get his first tattoo at Tattoos By Lou in Miami, Florida. There he met Albert Sgambati, one of his favorite artists. Most Marilyn tattoos were done by four people from the same Florida shop: Lou Sciberras (the founder of Tattoos By Lou), Donovan Stringer, Albert Sgambati and Ken Cameron. Manson also has a tattoo of a skull butterfly designed by Martin Emond that was done by Dark Mark of Illicit Tattoos in Auckland City, New Zealand.

Mark Machado, aka Mr. Cartoon, a famous Mexican-American tattoo and graffiti artist from Los Angeles has worked with a great list of celebrities: from Travis Baker to Beyonce, from Danny Trejo to Snoop Dog. He also designed the logos for Cypress Hill and Eminem’s Shady Records. His original technique comes from California prison. The prisoners had no access to colored inks, so they used watered down black inks to create shadows and depths. His work is a fine example of L.A. lowrider ink.

Mario Barth is known for his innovative work that introduced a new range of colors into the tattoo ink palette, his versatility of styles and his list of celebrity clientele such as Lenny Kravitz, Tommy Lee, Jason Kidd, members of the Wu-Tang Clan, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, members of My Chemical Romance, members of Ill Nino, Usher and…Sylvester Stallone. He is the owner and chief tattoo artist at Starlight Tattoo, the owner of high-end tattoo studio King Ink, and the owner and founder of 100% vegan-friendly tattoo ink manufacturer and seller Intenze Products Inc.

Jonathan Shaw is a self-described “world-traveling outlaw artist.” His career as a professional tattoo artist took him from LA to New Orleans, Miami to South America, then eventually to New York City, where he opened the citys first store-front tattoo parlor, the Fun City Tattoo on St. Marks Place, and founded the worlds first mainstream tattoo magazine, International Tattoo Art. He has worked with Johnny Depp, David Lee Roth, Eugine Hutz, Vanilla Ice, Marilyn Manson, Iggy Pop, Jim Jarmusch, supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss and many many others. Fun fact: Jonathan is a son of the Big Band legend Artie Shaw and Hollywood starlet, Doris Dowling.

If you are in a heavy metal, industrial, progressive or gothic rock then you have certainly seen Paul Booths work. He specializes in realistic horror and gothic tattoos done in grayscale. His regular clients are Fred Durst, Sepultura, Pantera, Slipknot, Slayer, Lamb of God, Mudvayne, Soulfly and many others. His works of art are done freehand with a black ink wash. In 2000 he co-founded an international charitable art organization called Art Fusion Experiment.

Keith ‘Bang Bang’ McCurdy was discovered by a 17-year old Rihanna at Whatever Tattoos in 2005. She asked the store piercer, Joe Snake, for the best tattoo artist in the city, and he recommended Bang Bang. The singer was impressed with his work and leading him to her friends Katy Perry and Cara Delevingne. Cara’s Instagram photos of her lion tattoo on her finger earned him a legion of new fans. Now his client list features Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Adele, Rita Ora and other pop celebrities. As one of the memorable moments of his career Keith names tattooing Justin Bieber at 40,000ft onboard a private a jet.
