SOME of the finest tattoo artists in the UK will unite in Walsall this weekend for a celebration of their art.

And the event, staged at Walsall Football Club’s Bescot Stadium, promises to be a real draw for fans with more than 4,000 people expected to visit the Cirque du Tattoo Festival over two days.

Almost 100 tattoo artists will be showing off their skills in body art and body mortification as well as doing live tattooing whilst aiming to dispel some of the myths around their craft.

There will also be scores of exhibition stands with traders selling everything from jewellery to clothing at what organisers claim will be the first convention of its kind in the region.

The event has been organised by tattoo shop owners Leon Jennings and Matt Bywater, who run New Identity in Wylde Green, Sutton Coldfield.

Leon said: “This really will be different to anything that has been seen before.

“There will be a feast of entertainment as well as all the tattooists and this really will be the first of its kind in terms of the way we are theming it in the Midlands.”

Among a host of acts including characters based on the popular TV series American Horror Story there will be live shows on the main stage throughout the weekend featuring Britain’s Got Talent finalists Circus of Horrors.

Hundreds of stall holders will join the tattoo artists from studios across the UK selling everything from jewellery to clothing and there will also be graffiti artists, DJs, bands and even fortune tellers.

Stilt walkers and fire breathers will mingle with visitors while there will also be body painting exhibitions and custom bikes.

Matt said: “Tattooing is such big business and more of a cult trend today than ever.

“We thought it was the perfect time to bring some of the best in the business all under one roof for an event like this.

“As well as featuring lots of established artists from studios UK wide we even have artists coming from Europe and some of up and coming talent too.”

Tickets for the event are now on sale with limited availability for another couple of stall holders too.

Tickets cost 15 for the day or 25 for the weekend with children just 5 and 7.50.

VIP tickets with additional access and priority for the shows cost 30 and all are available from
