The last time Ohio State football played Purdue, the Boilermakers pulled off a historic upset.

On Oct. 20, 2018, in West Lafayette, Purdue beat the No. 2-ranked Buckeyes 49-20.

It was the only loss of the year for Ohio State, but it was a costly one. The Buckeyes, playing in what would be Urban Meyer's final season, wereleft out of the College Football Playoff despite having just one loss.

Oklahoma was selected as the No. 4 seed, topping Georgia and Ohio State. Clemson went on to beat Alabama in the championship game.

Meyer would later announce his retirement and the Buckeyes would win the 2019 Rose Bowl to cap a13-1 season.

A Purdue loss away from being in the field. It was the first win over Ohio State since 2011, a season in which Luke Fickell served as the interim head coach.

The 2018 loss hasprovided some extra intrigue to the rivalry this year, as Ohio State, No. 4 in the current CFP rankings, faces a No. 19 Purdue team fresh off handing then No. 3 Michigan State a loss.

Ohio State hosts Purdue at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Purdue has been something of a boogie man this year against highly ranked teams. The Boilermakers have not only handed MSU its first loss of the season, but also then-ranked No. 2 Iowa in Iowa this season.

Despite recent outcomes, all-time history is not on Purdue's side against OSU

Let'stake a look at the Ohio State-Purdue rivalry by the numbers

Ohio State is 39-15-2 against the Boilermakers.

The rivalry started in 1919 when Ohio State beat Purdue 20-0. In fact, Purdue failed to score a point against Ohio State from 1919-1937, a total of six games.

Ohio State beat Purdue 56-0 in 2013 in West Lafayette.

In that game, Carlos Hyde rushed for 111 yards on just eight carries and Kenny Guiton had nine carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Ohio State won seven straight games over Purdue from 1989 to 1999 under coach John Cooper.

In 2000, Drew Brees connected with Seth Morales on a 64-yard touchdown pass with 1:55 remaining in the game to complete a 31-27win over Ohio State.Brees was 39-of-65 for 455 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions in the game.

Purdue's longest winning streak is just two games from 1943-1945.

Ohio State's 56-point win in 2013 is the largest victory. Purdue's 1967 win, 41-6, is the Boilermakers' biggest win.

Ohio State coach Woody Hayes was 10-4against Purdue. Hayes lost his first and last games against the Boilermakers.

Buckeyescoach John Cooper was 7-2 against Purdue, also losing his first and last games before winning seven straight. Current Ohio State coach Ryan Day has never coached against Purdue.

Without counting the vacated game in 2010 Ohio State won 49-0, but due to penalties connected to the tattoo scandal, the Buckeyes vacated the win Purdue head coaches Danny Hope, Joe Tiller, Jack Mollenkopf and Stu Holcomb are all tied for the most wins over the Buckeyes with two. Hope, who replaced Tiller, won in 2009 and 2011.
