Row as girl of 14 comes home with huge 25 tattoo on her arm – Birmingham Live

A row has broken out after a girl of 14 illegally had a 25 tattoo inked on her arm at a Sutton Coldfield studio.

Her angry father discovered the design on his daughter days later. The design says: "Be careful who you trust, the devil was once an angel."

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to undergo a tattoo procedure, even with parental consent.

The schoolgirl's father and the owner of Ultimate Art Tattoos are at loggerheads over how it happened.

The parent, who would not be named, alleged no ID was asked for when his daughter visited the studio with a friend. The family refused to allow BirminghamLive to publish a picture of the tattoo.

The girl's father said he had reported the matter to West Midlands Police. No comment was available from the force.

But tattooist Kevin Mountford claimed the girl said she was over 18, was wearing a mask and was not in school uniform when she visited at around 3pm on Wednesday, September 16.

The father told BirminghamLive: "I am furious. I discovered the tattoo a few days after she had it done.

"She told me she had gone with her 15-year-old friend to this tattoo studio. It cost her 25 and she paid in cash.

"As you can imagine I am furious. She is permanently marked. It is so upsetting.

"I have reported the matter to police. I don't want the same thing happening to other underage children."

Mr Mountford, 53, said he was "unaware" the girl was below the age of 18.

He said: "Why was a 14-year-old girl not at school?

"We took the track and trace details. We are vigilant about this sort of thing and we refuse to tattoo minors."

He said his premises had a sign up saying it was a criminal offence for customers to lie about their age.

He said: "I am one of the strictest tattooists around. I was the first tattooist in Sutton Coldfield. My business is everything to me. I've been doing this for 28 years.

"They came in wearing masks. It's a really bad time. I've just lost my father to Covid-19. There's a lot going on. We have no bad history. This has never happened before. I'm really annoyed."
